Everyone has some stress in their lives at some point, and some more than others. Here are some tips to help you deal with it and even remove some of it.
One quick question you can ask yourself if you are feeling stressed about a situation is this; will it matter next week, next month or next year? If not, let it go. Don’t worry unnecessarily about it.
Always remember to look at a situation from the other persons view. What would you do if you were in their shoes? Doing this can help a lot and you’ll probably come up with a solution to the problem that will be a win win situation. In doing so, the other person may even back down some knowing you are trying to find a common solution.
If you have said or done something that is causing a rift between yourself and someone else and it’s bothering you or you feel bad about it, definitely apologize. You will both feel better. There is a way to apologize without admitting fault, if you’ve made someone feel bad, but you still think you are right, you can say that you are sorry for making the person feel bad or upset. This strategy works well and is better than not apologizing at all.
Wait before responding. You may have heard it before, to count to 10 before responding to someone if you are upset. This can lighten your tone and response. Just take 2 deep breaths before responding and whatever comes out will sound a lot better than if you don’t. It’s good if you can respect the other person’s feelings. Just state your feelings in a matter of fact way. Everyone has the right to their own opinion, whether right or wrong.
If you feel you are so busy at work that you can never take a break, try to at least stop for 30 seconds a few times a day and take a few deep breaths. It will help to relax you and clear your mind.
If you have a problem that you are not sure what to do about, try to find someone to talk to that will give you helpful advice, not just someone to gossip with. You need a mature person to help you take a broad view of the situation and help you make your decision.
When you are away from work, try to relax and get your mind off things by watching something funny on TV or playing with your children. If you just supervise your children or someone else’s and never tried playing with them, you are missing some fun.
Exercise is a good stress reliever. It has lasting benefits as well. It will release endorphins in your body that will change your mental outlook and make you feel better. Exercise will also reduce stress, lower your blood pressure and increase your immune system. You don’t have to do anything formal, just walk a little, shoot some hoops, bike, swim or even play hopscotch with the kids.
Be sure to get enough sleep. Stop doing any work or activities at least one hour before you go to bed. You need to relax your mind. Keep a pad of paper on your night stand. If you think of something you forgot to do, write it down so you don’t have to worry about trying to remember it while you are sleeping. Be sure your room is dark and quiet. Wear earplugs if necessary. Sometimes listening to a relaxing tape while in bed will help you to relax and get to sleep.
People like to worry about things unnecessarily, so if you find yourself doing this, try some of the tips here, they are sure to help you relieve some stress in your life.
