How To Create A Podcast

Filed Under (Business Tools, Home Business, Info Publishing, Internet Marketing, Small Business, Social Marketing) by Kevin Sinclair on 01-07-2008

Podcasting is a method of giving out media files over the Internet. But how exactly is a podcast created? Read on and this article will tell you all you need to know.

First of all you will need a domain name. This will give your subscribers the location of where they can obtain your media files. If you can, choose a name which is easy to remember and describes the type of podcast you are publishing. Use a domain register such as eNom or GoDaddy to register your domain name.

The next thing you will need is a web host. There are many companies you can use, for example, Host Gator or StartLogic. As you will be storing a large amount of media files it is best to think about getting a big disk space when you are looking for a web host. For instance, a 2-minute mp3 file may be 2 MB in size. Quite a few web hosting companies offer several GB in disk space at an extremely low monthly cost. Apart from the disk space, you should also consider the amount of bandwidth the company is providing. This is the quantity of data that can be moved to and from your host each month. As your data files will be large, even a few subscribers can easily use up all of your bandwidth in a short space of time. Somewhere between ten and one hundred GB of bandwidth may be sufficient, but keep an eye on this and make sure you increase your bandwidth as your subscribers swell in number.

Upon selection of your web hosting company you will be provided with name servers which you will apply to your domain name later on. To finish setting up your site, you will need to input the name servers into the site where your domain name is registered and then your site will be visible on the Internet.

When your site is set up you should search the Internet and download dircaster.php. Arrange this program to show the particulars of your domain and then upload to your site accordingly.

The next step is to record the media file, which is known as an episode, that you are going to podcast. Audacity, from audacity.sourceforge.net is handy software to use and it is a free and open source to record and edit sounds. You can then record your episode from a CD, the computer’s sound card, a microphone or even a VOIP conversation and then edit the file by mixing tracks and cutting or adding segments. You also need to be adding tags and descriptions on your episode too.

Upload this media file in the same directory as the dircaster.php. The dircaster will then generate a RSS feed informing your subscribers all about the new file that is available for them to download.

Setting up a podcast is not difficult and the good news is that it does not cost much either. The required software is free and downloadable from the Internet. If you feel you have something to share with others of like minds, then podcasting is a super way to supply your information to the Internet.

Not everyone is successful when it comes to speech presentations, but those that are know and understand that there are some effective strategies for reaching their audience. If you are a public speaker, and just do not seem to be captivating your audience, this guide may prove to be exceptional helpful to you. Here, we will instruct you on techniques that you can use to capture the attention of your audience and properly retain it. In order to captivate your audience, you must start by learning your audience – by really getting to know them. Every successful presentation is backed by this simple fact – you must know who it is that you are speaking to.

Now, as you look over the audience that you are addressing, you may find yourself questioning exactly how it is that you are going to get to know all of these people in enough time to captivate them with your speech. It DOES seem like an impossible task. That is for sure! However, it can be done, and I am about to tell you how. You can start examining your audience by asking yourself, “what is it that this audience needs and wants?” In all actuality, it is best to ask this question even before you get in front of your audience. You should ask yourself this question as you are preparing your speech. There are generally two types of individuals that will be listening to the information that you have to offer:

1. The first type of person that will be attending your speech will need the information that you are going to deliver for one reason or another.

2. The second type of individual is the one that wants the information that you will bring with you when conducting the speech.

When creating your speech, it is important to include content that will appeal to both those that are searching for specific information that they need, and those that are just interested in hearing what it is that you have to say. When presenting the information that you have to share, it is important to know and understand that the content of your message must be delivered in an upbeat manner so that your audience is really enthused. Many successful speakers will offer a prep presentation that covers, or summarizes, the information that will be covered in the main part of the speech. This way, if someone already knows what it is that is going on when it comes to the information that you have, they have the opportunity to opt out of the presentation. This can prove to be a highly successful process when it comes to retaining your audience.

Now, the next thing that you will need to consider is the level of understanding that your audience has when it comes to the topic that you are discussing. True, they may have some knowledge on the subject, but do they really understand what it is that you are covering? If not, you should work to increase their level of understanding. If you do not capture their level of understanding, it is very likely that you will not captivate them as an audience. However, if you present the topic that you are covering in a manner that your audience can know and understand what it is that you are discussing, you will likely captivate the attention of your audience.

If you are a public speaker, it is absolutely essential, to know how to capture and maintain the interest of the audience that you are speaking too. Here, you have discovered some key items to keep in mind when it comes to developing a presentation that is bound to be a huge success. If you carefully implement the things listed throughout this guide while preparing your next speech, you will be quite popular among those that are part of your audience.

Blogs and Online Forums: Free and Effective Ways to Build Website Traffic

Filed Under (Business Success, Business Tools, Internet Marketing, Marketing, Social Marketing) by Kevin Sinclair on 11-05-2008

It is not possible to have a successful online business without website traffic. This means that implementing an effective traffic building strategy must be central to any overall internet marketing plan. In fact, without website traffic you might as well shut up shop. However, it can be expensive to drive targeted traffic to your website using paid strategies. It is therefore helpful to understand how to get interested visitors to your site without cost.

The first free method of driving traffic to your website is blogging. Most people these days know what blogging is and perhaps you already have one. However, to successfully drive traffic to your website from a blog you need to create an interesting, informative blog that can develop a readership. After all, if no one reads your blog you won’t be able to use it to drive traffic to your site.

With blogging, it is important to submit new posts regularly, preferably daily. It is also important that your blog articles are of a high quality and of particular interest to your targeted audience. One way to attract return visits is to regularly advertise special offers such as a free e-book, template or widget.

Blogs can be an important part of your traffic building strategy because they are very popular with search engines. Every time you add a new post, search engines crawl through your blog and index the page. If you update your blog daily, your chances of gaining a high position on the free search results page is dramatically increased. Blogger and Wordpress are two of the most popular blogging sites. Both allow you to establish a blog free of charge.

Online forums can also be used successfully to generate targeted traffic. By simply posting on forums and using a link to your website as your signature, you can receive the benefit of visitors to your website. You can find forums related to your niche by doing an internet search. Just make sure that the forum is active and has high traffic itself otherwise it might not be worth your time. Once you register on the forum, take some time to browse current posts to get sense of where people are coming from and what they are interested in. When you feel ready, start writing some posts yourself.

It is very important to understand the rules of forum posting. You are generally not allowed to promote your own business or products in forum posts. If you do this, your post will be removed and you will usually get a warning. In some cases, you will lose your forum membership. These rules can sometimes be applied in such an extreme way that even if someone on the forum asks for a recommendation, you still can’t give it. The best way to use the forum is to give generic but helpful information on any given forum topic. In forums, promoting your own business is considered spam even if it is relevant to the thread.

Both blogs and forums can be used to enhance your reputation or “expert” status. Building your credibility is an important aspect of attracting targeted website traffic. After all, if you invest in your own reputation in your particular niche, people will gain confidence in your advice and return to the blog or forum to see what else you have to say.

In your forum signature or blog ‘about me’ page you can provide a link to specific web pages or affiliate programs. If you have taken the time to build credibility with your readers, they will click on your link to check out new articles or special offers. Blogs and online forums are a great addition to any traffic building strategy. They also have the added benefit of being free.

These two traffic building strategies are highly effective and you can begin to use them immediately.

Build Links To Your Website With Pinging Services

Filed Under (Business Success, Business Tools, Internet Marketing, Social Marketing) by Kevin Sinclair on 04-05-2008

One of the methods used to get more web traffic to a blog or a website is “tag and ping” or “blog and ping”. It is quite simple to do, and brings many benefits to the webmaster savvy enough to take advantage of it.

What is Pinging?

Simply put, pinging is a method of verifying the presence of a place on the internet; and getting a response from that location. Ping is a program which is built into every operating system out there; it is one of the most commonly used tools in the system or network administrator’s toolkit. It merely checks for an internet addresses existence, and then requests a response from that address (which is to make sure that the address is capable of receiving requests). As a point of information/trivia to amaze your friends: ping is an acronym for packet inter-network groper!

The Process

A ping can be used anytime someone updates their website, or more relevant for our purposes here, a blog. A blog of course has frequently updated information. More static types of websites are less frequently updated and therefore not pinged as often.

A blog may be updated as much as several times a day, and often are a venue for the author to market products or services they offer, or as part of an affiliate marketing business. The author gets commissions on sales of the product in an affiliate relationship, so it is vital for the author to make search engines aware of any new content on the blog ASAP. This way they will receive more traffic and thus, more sales.

Of course, not every blog, or every post on a blog is written with the intent of selling something. Quite often it is the case that a blog posting or an article is written just to convey information or provide entertainment to readers. No matter what the reason for new content, any site owner wants their content seen, so getting this new post indexed by search engines is key to getting more visitors to the page.

A lot of ping requests must be sent to many different servers in order to get the kind of traffic the author will want for their content. There are pinging services out there which save the author from having to go through the tedious and time consuming process of individually pinging many different servers.

Advantages

Using more than one of these pinging services is a good idea. This will mean that many more servers will be pinged and become aware of new content than if just one pinging service was used. This of course, means more traffic; and traffic is the be all and end all of having a website of any kind.

Search engines are constantly indexing websites (this is called crawling or spidering). When they visit one of the servers which have been alerted to the fact that your site has new content, the search engines will also now be aware of your new content! That is the crucial first step in getting your new blog posts indexed. The more servers you ping, the easier it will be for the search engines to locate and index your new content, making it easier for people to find.

A lot of blogging services let the author opt for extra pinging services, along with those offered by the blogging service itself. An author can find many pinging services with a simple internet search, and add any they desire to their account with the blogging service.

Disadvantages

There is one drawback to using multiple pinging services. This is that there will be some duplicate pings. This can sometimes result in a blog being considered spam by some servers. It is up to the author to make the call on how many pinging services should be used, as there is no one formula for determining how many pings it takes to be considered spam by any particular server.

Judicious usage of “blog and ping” can greatly increase web traffic. Just one of many tools out there to increase traffic, “blog and ping” nevertheless should not be overlooked as a way of attracting more visitors.
