Get To The Top - Step By Step

What are your goals and dreams? So gigantic they make your stomach hurt – just a little? Or are they small, easily achievable and bore you to death?

Goals and dreams can range in stature from small and unassuming to larger than life itself. Which type of goal is the best you may ask? Well, it’s good to have both types of goals if you can.

Goals which “scare” you a bit are important. Goals and dreams are intended to stretch your thoughts, your capabilities and your personality, to change you into a new person. No matter how far away it seems, your goals should help you to find the kind of life you consider to be ideal.

History repeatedly informs us about folk who had big dreams regardless of the fact that people around them were all too quick to tell them to keep their feet on the ground. This is, in fact, the case with many successful people whatever their professions – they were all told to get their head out of the clouds at some time in their lives.

You really should not be afraid to have big goals and dreams. If you set yourself a goal which is so far out of your reach, not only will you feel nervous and excited about it at the same time, but you will know exactly how successful you have been when you have achieved that goal.

Nonetheless, it is also necessary to set small achievable goals too. You have to believe in yourself as your success depends on this. If the big goal you have in mind is a little too far out of your reach at the present time, start by setting yourself smaller goals. When you are successful with the small goals you will realize just how much more you can achieve.

The small goals you set can be something as straightforward as going to the gym so many times each week or working your way through a list of books to read. Any goal you reach will make you feel good about yourself and will boost your self confidence. Start with small goals but keep your eye on the big goal for the future. You will soon get there once your self esteem is high and flying.

Check the small goals off your list as you achieve them. These will act as stepping stones and help you to believe you can reach your big goal.

Overall success comes from setting both of these types of goals. The bigger ones will help motivate you to success and the little ones assist you to gain the required discipline and confidence as you go.

The Importance Of Being True To Yourself In Life

Filed Under (Personal Growth, Personal Success, Self Improvement) by Kevin Sinclair on 26-06-2008

Each and every single one of us has a unique set of values, beliefs, and even inspirations that make us who we are as individuals. Naturally, as we progress through life, these very important elements that lie at the very core of our existence will slightly alter and adjust in a manner to allow for the new experiences and situations that we have endured. Life is much like a sea…at one time; we may drift peacefully and quietly atop the glistening waters. Then, there will be situations in which we must work to keep ourselves afloat waters that are ferocious and ominous in nature.

Yes, it is true, there will be treacherous waters and frightening and intimidating clouds that linger among us throughout life, but it is essential that we each realize the importance of being true to ourselves. Is it not true that in the roughest of seas men learn to survive? Is it not among the violent waves that men learn to welcome and appreciate the calm surfaces of the water? Is it not true that when men face the evil of the storm that they relish in the calm that occurs after the thunders and treacherous waves have passed? If you are searching for the importance of being true to yourself, consider the man that was consumed by something much larger than he….

In order to be true to yourself in the midst of peace and calmness, you must stand firm in your beliefs when staring opposition in the face. This is what assists in developing who you are, this is what defines you…your ability to overcome and learn….

Many times in life, we will be faced with temptations that may defy who we are as individuals. It is so much easier to go with the natural flow of the tide than to push against it. It is human nature to want to experience as little complications as possible. What you must consider is if you are denying yourself of some important lesson, of something much bigger than you or you ever imagined. If floating with the direction of the tide defies you as an individual, and you feel as if you will not gain any type of insight as to who you are, or it does not allow you to stand alongside of your personal beliefs and convictions, turn that boat around and push with all of your might against the tide.

It is better for a man to be true to who he is, rather than deny himself of all the rewards he will experience as standing alone in his personal convictions and beliefs.

Being true to yourself is a very rewarding experience. Many experiences and situations will come your way and threaten the very existence of your unique stand in life. We pass over many different waves in life, many ships come in, and many ships pass us by. In many cases, animals of the wild such as sharks will want to engulf us in order to define their existence. Stormy skies will sometimes linger over us, and violent wars sometimes rest on the banks of life. In all of these things, you must stand strong in who you are. Allowing these situations to overcome you, violate you, and even control you in any way, just may be the point in which you lose sight of the horizon, sight of who you truly are….

Compromising your values, compromising your beliefs, compromises not only who you are, but your place in the world. By compromising your place in the world, you may very well be denying another the strength to remain to true to themselves…..remember the important and wise saying by Aldous Huxley:
“Experience is not what happens to you; it’s what you do with what happens to you.”

The Importance Of Time Management

Filed Under (Business Success, Personal Growth, Personal Success, Self Improvement) by Kevin Sinclair on 19-06-2008

They say there are different strokes for different folks, and they’re dead right. Each of us is different – we think differently, act differently, differ in likes and dislikes, and so on and so forth. Whatever we do, whatever mistakes we make, whatever realities we come across, we have to keep learning. Learning from our actions, emotions and behavior is a positive step, which can help us lead better lives in the future.

There are many armchair teachers who always keep advising people not to look back and ponder. Well, they’re wrong – time is the only teacher and you’re its favorite student, so you have to learn, come what may. About those armchair teachers – forget about them: After all they don’t say, “Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach”, for nothing!

Mismanagement of time can really set you back by a truckload of hours. By the time you get back to the task, it’s too late – So, time management is essential. The trick is to keep probing yourself with nagging questions. Once you have set up your time management goals and strategies, you need to ask yourself: (i) Are my goals realistic? (ii) Am I capable of achieving these goals?, and (iii) How can I go about achieving my goals successfully and tasting success at the end of it all?

Posing questions on time management can help you refine strategies or even re-strategize. Even asking for help and support from friends, relations, colleagues and the community can help you manage your time well. When time is managed well, you can experience success and a sense of fulfillment.

Understand, most of us aren’t self-made – we need some kind of help and support at some points in our life. But, you can ask for help only when you question yourself first and find that you don’t have the answers.

When a man questions himself, he sort of attains realization because seeking answers that lie within oneself is a therapeutic exercise! Let’s take an example: Let’s assume you are scheduled to marry in December, and it is now June. What questions must you ask yourself for such a momentous, happy occasion that’s coming at you in a short span of time? You must ask yourself: (i) Is the timing right? (ii) Am I ready for marriage? (iii) Can I handle the marriage formalities alone or will I need help? (iv) What are the pre-nuptial formalities I must attend to in time? Also ask yourself questions related to the event that can help you plan for contingencies and save both time and money in the bargain. It’s easy to commit to an event, but it’s hard to see it through if you don’t time your actions (leading to the event) right.

Many people do not bother probing themselves – the result is that both time and money are wasted, and sometimes relationships are ruined due to lack of foresight. Do you know why people don’t ask questions? – It is because of their ego. They feel asking questions and seeking help will belittle them. Well, ego is bad! It is true that everyone has his own pride – however, such pride should not be converted into ego. Frankness, transparency, controlling one’s ego, and honesty can really help in time management.

When it comes to time management, you have to keep things simple. Tie them up in knots and they’ll tie you up in “nots”. The term “simple” in time management denotes a practical, effective approach. It means that after one has set his goals, he has to chart a roadmap to achieve them – a road that is simple and straight, and not long-winded, curvy or one that ends in a dead end.

Both the goals and the plan must be simple and straightforward. Sure, along the way doubts may creep in, but these can be resolved if the plan is practical and has taken contingencies into account. People involved in the plan may also make mistakes, but a prudent plan always provides for errors. Of course, if nature intervenes and spoils the party, there is nothing you can do.

Every plan has its shares of flaws, but a practical plan always assumes it has in-built flaws and provides time for fixing them. To manage time effectively, you have to set goals, ask yourself questions, play your part to the hilt and enjoy the results. If the results are good, that’s great going. If they are not as intended, then you must not lose heart.

To conclude, life is too short to waste any time. Wasting time is akin to wasting money, so you must learn to respect time by learning the basics of time management. People who kill time needlessly are killed by time. Time is the big boss – it controls everything. So get down to time management and make a great plan. Good luck.

Positive Thinking Is A Magnet For Success

Filed Under (Personal Growth, Personal Success, Self Improvement) by Kevin Sinclair on 12-06-2008

Most people have heard of Norman Vincent Peale’s famous book “The Power of Positive Thinking.” The influence of this book and others of a similar ilk has been significant and thousands of people have applied the principles of positive thinking to achieve personal success.

How important is positive thinking to the achievement of success?

More than anything, it seems that our attitude to life has a greater influence on success than education, experience and other factors. So if you want your dreams to materialize, start by monitoring your attitude.

You need to learn how to think positively despite the circumstances. If you can do this, you will have taken a significant step towards achieving your dreams. Fortunately, it is not overly difficult to improve your thinking habits. You simply have to identify negative thoughts you need to change and replace them with positive thoughts.

Positive thinking allows us to reinterpret our experiences and circumstances more optimistically than we might otherwise do. In turn, this gives us greater personal strength to weather the storms we face and turn difficult situations around. It also helps us to move from where we are to where we want to be. By simply paying attention to the stream of thoughts that run through our minds we can quickly identify those that are negative.

It is therefore important to begin to pay attention to your thoughts. How often do you feel unhappy, negative, judgemental or discouraged? Before you can really achieve the success you want it is essential to begin to think more positively.

Positive thinkers do not allow a single negative event to affect their whole lives. They are able to put things in perspective and still maintain a healthy emotional balance. It is amazing how many people hold onto anger and regrets about relatively unimportant things.

To truly take advantage of the power of positive thinking, you need to let go of resentments and unforgiveness. There is a time for these feelings. If you have been betrayed and bruised it is only human to experience emotional pain. However, if you truly want a happy life you cannot hold onto these feelings for very long.

You don’t have to be unrealistic to be a positive thinker. It isn’t about avoiding the truth or hiding from reality; it is simply taking charge of your life beginning with your thoughts. We create what we focus on in life. We may think we are focusing on good things but when we pay attention to our thoughts we can be shocked to discover how negative they are. If our thoughts are negative, we will attract negative things into our lives. It’s that simple.

By simply paying attention to the good things in your life and being grateful for them, you can become a positive thinker. When your thoughts are overwhelmingly positive you will begin to attract more positive experiences into your life. That is the simple yet amazing power of positive thinking.
