The first criteria are your skills and interests. You should not take a job doing taxes for people if you hate doing them and have no accounting skills. But if you love making crafts, there are many ways you can turn a hobby into a nice work at home career.

The second criteria is how a work at home job fits the lifestyle you want. Most work at home moms build a business so they can fit work around their duties as a mom. Your business should be flexible so you can work when the kids are in school or busy with other activities. You should be able to break from your work almost on a moment’s notice to attend to “mom duties” and come back to it and pick up where you left off.

Do I Have to Incorporate a Business to Work at Home?

Not at all. There a many jobs you can take working for an employer but doing so from home. In fact, the job you are leaving may be willing to set you up with an office at home so you can be a good mom and still be a good employee for them. The work at home movement is going strong and many businesses are finding ways to keep employees in their homes and still get productive work from them.

How Can the Internet Help My Plan to Become a Work at Home Mom?

The internet is full of great opportunities that you can tap to build a career that you do from home. There are dozens of on-line job boards where you can find full or part-time jobs or just projects to do on a “per job” basis to make good money working at home. The challenge will be getting used to capturing good work from the internet and learning to navigate those job board sites so you find good jobs from the internet and you avoid the scams.

What are the Pitfalls to Watch out for When Working at Home?

Be prepared to find it difficult to balance work and home duties. There will be times when your work at home job becomes demanding. There will be deadlines and pressures just like with any job. It is tricky to be able to take care of your kids, do the shopping and cleaning, run errands and do a good job for your customers or employer and keep up. So cut yourself some slack as you get used to it in the early going. Be encouraged that thousands of moms just like you find that balance and earn good money working from home and taking care of their children at the same time. If they can do it, so can you.
